Merginmaps — Geospatial Data Collection SaaS
2020 – Present
Situation: Lutra Consulting was launching a new geospatial data collection product from scratch and needed a core engineer to architect and build the backend alongside the founding team.
What I did: Joined as core backend developer and architect on the founding engineering team, building the platform from first prototype through to production alongside the team. Designed the API (Flask, OpenAPI) and data sync layer, containerized and deployed on Kubernetes (AWS EKS), helped build the CI/CD pipeline. Worked closely with product, marketing, sales, and support as the product grew.
Result: Platform scaled to 100,000+ users in production, built from the first prototype alongside the founding team. merginmaps.com
Mappin — Customizable Webmapping Platform
2018 – 2023
Situation: Various clients needed webGIS capability, and we wanted to stop custom-building a solution per customer and instead offer a configurable product deployable on-prem or cloud.
What I did: Main architect, contributor, and maintainer. Built on Flask, Vue.js, PostGIS, and QGIS, with Docker/Kubernetes. Ran in two environments — AWS EKS and on-premises Linux/Windows — since public sector bodies and firms in telecom, mining and energy often can't run in the cloud.
Result: Replaced fully custom webGIS builds with one configurable platform, in active use through 2023.
Business Intelligence Data Warehouse
2023 – 2025
Situation: An existing data warehouse needed someone to maintain it and extend it to new data sources and reports.
What I did: Took over the existing warehouse, then maintained and extended it — new data transformation workflows via Airbyte/Airflow orchestration and reporting via Metabase.
Result: Recurring data pulls and reports run automatically instead of by hand — the same kind of problem most SMEs have.
Geoportal Support & Maintenance — County Council, Slovakia
2022 – 2023
Situation: A geoportal originally built by the World Bank for a county council needed ongoing support and customization, and non-technical staff needed to actually use it day to day.
What I did: Took over an existing platform, then customized and maintained it as needs evolved — extending its automated data harvesters and training staff hands-on in PostGIS.
Result: Less manual data handling for council staff, and a team able to manage the GIS side themselves. geopresovregion.sk

How long does an engagement usually run?
No strict minimum. A scoped PoC can take a few weeks. For day-rate work I recommend at least a few weeks to cover ramp-up.
Can you sign an NDA before we talk details?
Yes, happy to sign one before the scoping call if needed.
What time zones do you work?
Based in Slovakia (Central European Time), with hours flexible enough to cover European/UK teams during the day and stretch to overlap with the US East Coast in the morning.
Do you work solo or plug into an existing team?
Both — I take on standalone builds, or integrate directly into your team's existing workflow and repo for augmentation work.
What if the project needs frontend or design work too?
I focus on backend, cloud, and data, and I'm happy to work alongside your frontend or design people, or bring in trusted collaborators for full-stack needs.
Do you support the project after it ships?
Yes — that's what the retainer/day-rate option is for; PoC/fixed-price work can also convert into ongoing support once shipped.
Are you available for full-time roles?
No — I work on a contract basis only: fixed-price projects, day-rate, or retainer.
